How to interpret keyboard ghosting results

Multi-key tests are most useful when you understand the difference between missed keys, extra keys, rollover limits, and browser limits.

Use a physical keyboard on a desktop or laptop. Mobile virtual keyboards cannot hold the same key combinations and are not suitable for NKRO or ghosting checks.

What it detects

Whether expected multi-key combinations are reported together, which keys are missed, and whether extra unexpected keys appear.

What failed combinations mean

A missing target key suggests rollover limits or a blocked matrix path. Extra detected keys suggest ghosting. Repeated failures on the same combo are stronger evidence than one attempt.

Laptop, mechanical, and external keyboards

Laptop and office keyboards often have 2KRO to 6KRO limits. Gaming and mechanical keyboards may support 6KRO, 10KRO, or NKRO depending on USB or firmware mode.

Browser and system limits

The browser only sees key events delivered by the operating system. Reserved shortcuts, focus loss, keyboard layout, USB HID mode, and Bluetooth connection quality can affect detection.

Mobile limits

Phone touch keyboards do not expose simultaneous physical key presses. Use mobile only for reading the guide unless you have a real external keyboard attached.

What is NKRO (N-Key Rollover)?

NKRO means the keyboard can detect any number of simultaneously pressed keys without ghosting. Full NKRO keyboards can register all keys pressed at once.

Why is anti-ghosting important for gaming?

Many games require pressing multiple keys simultaneously (e.g., WASD + Shift + Space). Anti-ghosting ensures all key presses are registered, preventing missed inputs during gameplay.

Do all mechanical keyboards have anti-ghosting?
